Psychoeducational testing can be important for children and teens who are struggling to perform to their academic potential in school and for adults who are considering returning to school or purusing a graduate degree. One's individual approach to learning is the focus of psychoeducational testing. The purpose of a psychoeducational assessment is to assess a client's intellectual/cognitive abilities and educational achievement levels. It is an assessment of the psychological aspect of learning and academic skills, including intelligence, language skills, memory, verbal and visual learning, attention/concentration, hand-eye coordination for pencil paper task, planning ability, and response style. Academic skills include reading, spelling, writing, mathematics, academic fluency, listening comprehension, and oral expressive skills. Psychoeducational assessments are used to determine a client's academic and cognitive strengths and weakness. This particular evaluation is extremely useful in educational planning. For the intellectual/cognitive portion of this evaluation this office utilizes one or a combination of the following assessment batteries: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV), Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV), Stanford Binet-Fifth Edition (SB-V), and Woodcock Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities-Third Edition (WJCOG-III). For the academic achievement portion of this evaluation this office utilizes one or a combination of the following assessment batteries: Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-Second Edition (WIAT-II) or the Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement-Third Edition (WJ-ACH-III). Additional testing in the areas of reading, written language and mathematics may also be conducted. If social/emotional factors are a consideration this will also be a part of the evaluation.
